Dr. Partha Sarathi Patra, an Indian national, is a distinguished Gastroenterologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology at North Bengal Medical College. He also serves as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nightingale Hospital in Kolkata. Dr. Patra’s academic journey commenced with an MBBS from Calcutta University, followed by an MD in Internal Medicine from PGI Chandigarh, and further specialization with a DM in Gastroenterology from IPGMER Kolkata. His area of expertise primarily lies in Pancreatobiliary diseases and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Dr. Patra has made significant contributions to the field through numerous publications in esteemed journals, focusing on various aspects of gastroenterological conditions. His research includes studies on fluid collections in acute severe pancreatitis, the natural history of Idiopathic Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis (IRAP), treatment outcomes in biliary ascariasis, and the longer-term prognosis of acute pancreatitis. Moreover, Dr. Patra has conducted prospective cohort studies, including the external validation of the Chronic Pancreatitis Prognosis Score (COPPS), and an open-label randomized controlled trial comparing different preventive measures for Postendoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatographic Pancreatitis (PEP). His work extends beyond medical research, shedding light on the socioeconomic impact of chronic pancreatitis on Indian outpatients.
